Abstract

A descriptive and retrospective study was undertaken in 1 938 patients that were seen in two Bolivarian physician's offices located in the blocks of buildings H, I, and P of Trapichito community, Valencia of Carabobo State, in Venezuela, from December 2003 to February 2004, to characterize medical care of Inside the Neighbourhood Mission, and to know its economic impact on the community. The research data were obtained from the registries of the physicians' offices, and the current cost of the drugs from the price list of the local drugstores by their generic names. These drugs are available at the physicians' offices and are used there for free. It was concluded that most of the patients were children and females. The main health problems found were ARI, skin diseases, AHT and intestinal parasitism. The economic benefit received by the community amounted to 13 978 070 Bolivares, equivalent to USD 7 298.49, according to the exchange rate established at that time.
