BERDASQUERA CORCHO, Denis; GALINDO SANTANA, Belkys María  e  GALA GONZALEZ, Ángela. Hepatitis viral A: six years of surveillance in Guanajay. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.3. ISSN 0864-2125.

Viral hepatitis A is a disease closely related to the hygienic and sanitary conditions in Cuba , where it is considered as an autoctonous disease. A descriptive retrospective study of 419 patients was conducted from 2000 to 2005 in the municipality of Guanajay, Havana province. The behavior of the disease was described to determine its tendency and to stratify the territorial behavior of the main factors influencing on its transmission according to People's Councils. Among the chief resutls, it was found that hepatitis A had an ascending trend with a global increase of the incidence rate of 82.92 % and an average annual rise of 3.58 %. A higher frequency was observed in young males living in the People's Council 2, and diagnosed mainly at the primary health care level.Taking into account the impact of different environmental risk factors, the People's Council 2 showed the highest risk for the transmission of this disease in the municipality. It was concluded that the behavior of viral hepatitis A in Guanajay does not differ from what happens in the rest of the country. The territorial distribution of the risk factors influencing on its appearance proves to be consistent with the behavior of mortality from viral hepatits A in the municipality.
