The inflammatory articular síndrome (IAS) is present in nearly all the diseases affecting the osteomyoarticular system (OMAS), and it develops different characteristics according to the affection originating it. In this paper, a review of the pathogenesis of the inflammatoy process is made. Its steps and the functions of different elements influencing on its mechanism are described, and the nomenclatures existing for the classification of this syndrome are integrated, taking into account at the same time the clinical, radiological and lab variations occurring during its development to attain an appoach as accurate as possible to the nosological diagnosis of the rheumatic entities.
