Abstract

DIAZ NOVAS, José  and  GUINART ZAYAS, Nancy. Resolutive capacity of the emergency services in primary health care . Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2008, vol.24, n.2. ISSN 0864-2125.

An observational descriptive and retrospective study was undertaken aimed at identifying the resolutive capacity of the emergency services at Lawton Teaching Polyclinic during 2005. An elevated resolutive capacity was found since only 1.37 % of the cases seen and 28.69 % of the cases observed were referred. Most of these cases were referred due to the severity of their affection, to the lack of improvement after a period of observation and treatment, to difficulties to make the diagnosis, to therapeutic requirements, to the need of assessment by other specialists, or to the necessity of doing tests that are only available in the hospital. New studies are required to evaluate the resolutive capacity of the emergency services in primary health care.

Keywords : Resolutive capacity; emergency; services; primary health care.
