DE LA VEGA PAZITKOVA, Tatiana; PEREZ MARTINEZ, Víctor T.  and  BEZOS MARTINEZ, Lenia. Risk factors of bronchial asthma in children and its relation to severity of clinical manifestations. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2010, vol.26, n.2. ISSN 0864-2125.

Introduction: bronchial asthma is a psychosomatic disease that is a significant problem of world health. In Cuba its prevalence is of 8.2 %. Its identification and the risk factor control are a very essential base in management of this entity. Objectives: to establish the relation among some risk factors of bronchial asthma and the severity of clinical manifestations. Methods: a cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted including all children aged under 15, diagnosed with asthma seen in 5 consulting rooms of "Ana Betancourt" Polyclinic whose figure raises to 76 patients from April, 2007 to March, 2008. Results: children were grouped according to the Global Initiative for Arthma 2007 in: 15 were slight intermittent, 19 were slight persistent, 28 were moderate persistent and 14 were severe. The total of study patients had family backgrounds of atopy and triggered the asthma crises according the climatic changes. The 95% was sensitive to respiratory inhalants. At homes there was a 64% of smoking. Only the 36% of patients fulfill partially the requirement of inter-crisis treatment. Conclusions: there is a direct relation between severity of clinical manifestations of bronchial asthma and the number of risk factors provoking it.
