A methodologic strategy is exposed which links the teaching of the future specialists in hygiene an epidemiology with the identification, priorities, and solutions of problems related to the service, with the objective of improving the practice of epidemiology, as well as the training in this specialty according to our health needs. The priorities concerning problem solving and the tasks performed by 3rd year residents in this specialty at each of the different selec-ted municipalities, as well as the forms of assessment are also pointed out.
