Challenges that Health Ministry has available to guarantees equity and accessibility to postgraduate education of more than a hundred thousand professionals working in different institutions and units of National Health System are analysed, as well as those ones that Universities have to meet for XXI century, based on observance of principles such that leave, quality, pertinence and technologic development, in close interrelation to modernization, decentralization, insertion, and social commitment. We analyse that education at a distance is a significant choice to favour a greater access to postgraduate education, with educational process of pedagogical quality, mediatized by communication and interaction processes, relyed in technologic networks and organized on the base previously identified needs of aprenticeship, without the student lose contact with labour and familiar spheres. Need to create Virtual University of Medical Sciences of Cuba is stablished, defining its goals and strategies. Cuban pattern is presented, where the more advanced of printed telematic and didactic models is interrelated and well- planed to use on a world scale. Methodologies to be used in design and execution of different teaching modalities are presented, as well as its evaluation system of academic accreditation and certification. Authors present structure on which Virtual University of Cuban Medical Sciences is hold up as well as current and perspective situation of project´s execution.
