Abstract

ILIZASTIGUI DUPUY, Fidel. El método clínico: muerte y resurrección. Educ Med Super [online]. 2000, vol.14, n.2, pp.109-127. ISSN 0864-2141.

A reflection about the relevancy and up-to-dateness of the clinical method, considered as the process of diagnosis inherent to human practical medicine is made. Epistemological considerations about the scientific nature of the clinical method, the taxonomy in medicine and the "cardinal types" of the differential diagnosis are given. The process of diagnosis from the point of view of the logical processes and, in particular, the deductive hypothetical method, is analyzed. The activation, refinement, and evaluation of hypotheses as operating mechanisms in the process of diagnosis are approached. Considerations on the impact of computer technology on the clinical method and its improvement are made. Finally, the pertinency of a transformation of the clinical method due to the appearance of a new paradigm of medicine that is more expansive and extensive, with a hermeneutic foundation of the meaning and interpretation of diagnosis, and with the human beign as the central axis and medicine as a human and practical science, is evaluated.
