This paper presents a brief account of the origins of the University of Havana. It sets forth the development of Anatomy teaching from the very beginning as well as the introduction of the microscopic contents into the different curricula up to the emergence of Histology as a subject in the Medical studies and its development until 1960. It also mentions the most outstanding figures in the teaching of histology at different years and the main characteristics of the teaching of this subject.
