Abstract

ALTERIO ARIOLA, Gianfranco Humberto  and  PEREZ LOYO, Henry Alejandro. Utilidad de las clases teóricas magistrales y propuesta para un aprendizaje participativo. Educ Med Super [online]. 2004, vol.18, n.2, pp.1-1. ISSN 0864-2141.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the students' opinion on the magistral theoretical classes of Macroscopic Anatomy II and its relationship with the academic performance in order to propose strategies for a more participative learning. The sample was obtained by the simple randomized technique and it was composed of 108 students that were studying this subject in 2000. A questionnaire was applied. It was proved that 68.4 % only attended half of the theoretical magistral classes, 49 % did no participate in them, 29.7 % considered them as insufficient for supporting their practical activities, 74 % would like there would be a correspondance with other subjects, 71.3 % did not want to subtitute them, in spite of the fact that 77.8 % were not satisfied with their average mark of 10 points. It was concluded that according to the results, the theoretical magistral classes were no efficient for preparing the practical activities of the students, which was reflected in the low academic performance. It was recommended to reduce the number of these classes and to increase the number of professor-student hours in seminars and counselings, to rise the weighing of appreciative mark, continual evaluation and seminars at the expense of the value of theoretical exams, and to motivate the student with the participative learning.
