The historical evolution of higher medical education in Cuba from the triumph of the Revolution to the year 2004 was analized in a qualitative and quantitative way. Weaknesses, strengths and challenges were stressed. It was concluded that in this period due to the educative policy developed there were advances in higher medical education that have never been achieved in Cuba during 443 years of colonization, U.S. interventions and mediatized republic.
