Abstract

A characteristic distinguishing the Cuban Revolution is international solidarity, which has been materialized in diverse sectors of society. The objective of this paper is to briefly narrate the most important developments connected with the foundation of the Faculty of Medicine of Aden in the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen that gave origin to the Cuban internationalist cooperation in the medical teaching field. The study conducted by the Cuban-Yemenite Joint Commission from February to March 1974 to assess the possibility of creating this Faculty of Medicine, the Cooperation Agreement signed between the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba and the Ministry of Public Health of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, in July 1974, the Cooperation Protocol signed between the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Havana and the representative of the Ministry of Public Health of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, in August 1974, and the training of the Yemenite teaching personnel in Cuba, based on the teaching of Basic Sciences of Higher Medical Education, in the first semestre of 1975, are among the most significant events of that period.
