Abstract

A preliminary study was made to define the concept of experimental model in ophthalmology surgery, its significance, historical backgrounds, and Cuban incorporation to this educational model based on experimental psychology. Bibliography on experimental surgery was reviewed at world scale, and we selected those classical papers on this field, end results were discussed. Laboratory work was emphasized, which is essential for surgeons training; allows understanding of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; a scientific and inquisitive thought in surgeon, increase its interest for research, and thus, is part of progress of ophthalmology surgery as science.
