Abstract

CIRES REYES, Estrella; VICEDO TOMEY, Agustín Guillermo; PRIETO MARRERO, Gerardo  and  GARCIA HERNANDEZ, Marlene. Pedagogic research in the medical career. Educ Med Super [online]. 2011, vol.25, n.1, pp.82-94. ISSN 0864-2141.

A qualitative and quantitative educational research was carried out to determine the possible causes related to the preparation of the faculty and of the academy that had to do with the shortage of educational research works. All the medicine professors, who were working in Lisa municipality during the second semester of the 2008-2009 academic year and the first semester of the 2009-2010 course in addition to 10 professors from the master's course in Higher Health Sciences Education and members of a focal group, were involved. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, the results were shown in tables and graphs by using absolute numbers and percentages. The faculty showed poor preparation in pedagogic topics and in the methodology for research on teaching; poor access to educational literature and low experience in teaching as such, among other things. The presence of educational methodologists and the detection of the main pedagogic problems were identified as elements that may facilitate the conduction of educational research works.

Keywords : Educational research; pedagogic problem bank; qualitative research.
