The teaching means are varied and extensive in number; so their classification is very useful to facilitate their study, organization and planning. The objective of this paper was to briefly explain the concept and the criteria for the classification of teaching means, as well as the general characteristics of these means as per their didactic functions and their application in each learning stage. They are the components of the teaching and learning process that act as a way of communication and serve to support the teaching methods. They can be classified in different ways, according to various criteria, although the most used is the wide operative classification based on didactic functions that facilitate application in every learning stage.
