Abstract

The Cuban university of medical sciences faces at present the challenge of fulfilling its social mission and achieve at the same time the quality formation of the health professional that the society needs. With the objective of identifying the encouraging elements and the challenges of this university, a literature and documentary review of the main ruling documents of the formative process was presented. The analysis facilitated the attainment of the objective. Additionally, it was verified that the mission is well defined and oriented toward the new social conditions of the present context, supported by the political willingness of the state, and that the university is facing significant challenges to raise the quality of the formative process.
