A research study was conducted in the medical education field, particularly in the graduate education, from January to July, 2009. The objective was to detect the learning needs of the Academic Committee professors from the Bachelor of Nursing career in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in terms of the construction of written evaluation instruments. The universe of study was made up of 20 professors, who held the teaching categories of assistant professor or instructors, and were in charge of designing such instruments. The variables of the administrated survey intended to assess the participants' knowledge on the type of questions making up the written evaluation instruments. The results yielded that, for example, the knowledge of the professors about the characteristics or requirements of the various types of questions and their wording was poor, and that the grouped complement multiple choice questions and the essay-type questions were regarded as the most complex in terms of their construction.
