Abstract

MEDEROS VILLALON, Lídice. The diary as an educational material for the promotion of sexual health (2015-2018). Educ Med Super [online]. 2021, vol.35, n.1  Epub Apr 01, 2021. ISSN 1561-2902.

Introduction:

Diaries can be tools used in behavior change processes.

Objective:

To describe the construction of the educational material “Diario de mi adolescencia” [Diary of my adolescence].

Methods:

A total of 14 people participated in the preparation of the material, including specialists, health educators and promoters. The diary construction was completed through a multistage process. The diary is made up of several sections encouraging the individual to reflect and analyze her/his behavior, thus suggesting a behavioral change. The material was validated both by a team of experts and by the population at which it was targeted. The suggestions resulting from the validation process were incorporated entirely.

Results:

This material contributes to raising the knowledge related to sexual health, to promote autonomy in decision-making and contributes to the formation of values such as companionship, solidarity, filial love, commitment, among other fundamental elements for the construction of the personality in the adolescent. Among the limitations, the non-comparison with other materials of this type in the country is identified.

Conclusions:

It is considered an educational material that contributes to maintenance of the integral health of adolescents.
