Introduction:
Family physicians, in their professional training, must develop competencies to assist pediatric surgical emergency institutions in primary care, which require experience and “good eye” for their diagnosis.
Objective:
To characterize the formation of the pediatric surgical emergency competence of the family physician in primary health care.
Methods:
A descriptive research of evaluation and development and quantitative-qualitative character was carried out with the residents of Aquiles Espinosa Salgado outpatient polyclinic, of the municipality of Las Tunas, during the academic year 2023-2024. The universe was made up of 21 and the sample was the 19 who received the contents of the course 27 on surgical emergency of the specialty training program. Theoretical-level methods, empirical-level methods and statistical methods were used to obtain the data and process the information.
Conclusions:
In the competence related to pediatric surgical emergency, the cognitive and procedural dimensions came to present the greatest difficulties. The professor's pedagogical preparedness and creative awareness to meet the improvement requirements had an important influence.
