SALLES BETANCOURT, Guido; CABRERA VILTRES, Nelson; CASTRO SOTO DEL VALLE, Antonio y TARRAGONA REINOSO, Ricardo. Total wrist arthrodesis with RALCAâ external minifixator. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 1999, vol.13, n.1-2, pp. 95-98. ISSN 1561-3100.
The results obtained in 25 patients who underwent total arthrodesis of the wrist with RALCA® external minifixator due to different diseases or traumatic lesions with diffuse articular damage were shown. A comparison was made with other techniques of total arthrodesis. It was demonstrated that the average time of follow-up was 24 months, average age was 44 and that arthrodesis of the dominant wrist was performed in 15 cases (60%). 23 (92%) of the 25 arthrodesis consolidated at l0 weeks. 10 complications (40%) appeared in the postoperative. 2 were solved by surgical procedures and the rest by conservative treatment. It was concluded that total arthrodesis of the wrist with RALCA external minifixator allows a rapid consolidation with a few complications.
