Resumen

JACOBO NUNEZ, Marlene Elvira; ALVAREZ CAMBRAS, Rodrigo; SANCHEZ NODA, Eddy Orestes  y  MARRERO RIVERON, Luis Oscar. Pseudoarthrosis of long bones treated with osteosynthesis and bone graft from a tissue bank. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2004, vol.18, n.2. ISSN 0864-215X.

A retrospective descriptive study was performed on 80 patients operated from diaphyseal pseudoarthrosis of long bones from January, 1995 to December,2000 in "Frank País" International Scientific Orthopedic Complex. The common features of all these patients were the use of bone graft from The Tissue Bank ORTOP and the treatment with different internal or external fixators, according to their requirements. Pseudoarthrosis was more frequent in Caucasian males aged 26-45 years and the most common location was the lower third of the tibia. Most of the patients presented with unviable pseudoarthrosis. The most used osteosynthesis means was external fixator employed either exclusively or associated with other methods. The consolidation of the tibia required the longest time amounting to over 16 weeks. Good results were obtained in the described treatment, most of them achieved with the combination of external fixation and bone graft from the bank. This bone graft is a good assistance in treating diaphyseal pseudoarthrosis of long bones.

Palabras clave : Pseudoarthrosis; Bone graft; Tissue bank.
