Resumen

UBEDA-PEREZ DE HEREDIA, Íñigo et al. Upper-Extremity Massive Deep Vein Thrombosis Secondary of Broken Collarbone. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2016, vol.30, n.1, pp.116-123. ISSN 0864-215X.

Upper-extremity deep vein thrombosis is a rare entity that is associated with the use of catheters, hypercoagulable states, oral contraceptives, neoplasias, cervical rib or scalene syndrome, clavicle fractures and stress induced thrombosis. A 53 year male patient is presented here. He developed thrombosis of the axillary, cephalic and basilica veins three days after suffering a fractured middle third clavicle, which was initially immobilized with eight-bandage. The condition was solved with enoxaparin sodium and functional rehabilitation; clavicle fracture consolidated and thrombosed veins had recanalization. Some cases of thrombosis of the axillary or subclavian veins caused by clavicular fractures have been reported. It is very rare the occurrence of extensive thromboses affecting several veins, in this case, secondary to trauma or pressure exerted by the bandage.

Palabras clave : thrombosis; limb; upper; extremity; fracture; clavicle; eight bandage.
