Resumen
VARGAS MORALES, Renán Estuardo et al. Ulnocarpal arthrodesis for diffuse radial osteomyelitis by venous cannulation. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2024, vol.38 Epub 10-Mayo-2024. ISSN 1561-3100.
Introduction:
The single-bone forearm is used to reconstruct the limb when other options are not viable. The procedure sacrifices supination and pronation, but ensures a stable and painless forearm.
Objective:
To validate ulnocarpal arthrodesis in a case of diffuse radial osteomyelitis.
Case report:
The case of a 51-year-old woman with chronic diffuse osteomyelitis of the distal radius, secondary to cannulation of the cephalic vein, is reported. Two surgical cleanings were performed as initial treatment and once the infection was controlled, centralization of the ulna and ulnocarpal arthrodesis were performed.
Conclusions:
Centralization of the ulna as a single bone and ulnocarpal arthrodesis constitute rescue techniques in distal radius infections with extensive bone loss.
Palabras clave : ulnocarpal arthrodesis; diffuse radial osteomyelitis; venous cannulation.
