SUAREZ GUZMAN, Francsico Javier. Mortality causes due to diseases of organs of locomotion in Badajoz during 19th century. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2024, vol.38 Epub 15-Jun-2024. ISSN 1561-3100.
Introduction:
According to Bertillon Classification, based on etiological and anatomical models, the causes of mortality due to diseases of the organs of locomotion have been classified into different groups in Jerez de los Caballeros, Badajoz, Spain, during the 19th century.
Methods:
Through the study of Death Books of the Parish Archives, twenty-six thousand two hundred three deaths were recorded. In 7665, no diagnosis was recorded. Eighteen thousand five hundred thirty-eight specified deaths were used to identify the causes of death due to diseases of the musculoskeletal organs.
Results:
Pathologies of the organs of locomotion was the tenth cause of mortality in Jerez de los Caballeros during the 19th century, with 303 cases and 1.6% of total mortality.
Discussion:
Similar studies were carried out in other nearby cities, with disparate results, depending on the number of deaths and the length of the period studied.
Conclusions:
Most deaths were caused by rickets. The study is limited due to the collection of reliable data due to possible errors in transcription, interpretation and diagnosis.
