Resumen
MONZON RODAS, Alejandro Antonio. Anterolateral ligament repair in anterior cruciate ligament rupture of the knee. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2025, vol.39 Epub 30-Mar-2025. ISSN 1561-3100.
Introduction:
The anterolateral ligament is part of the components that stabilize the rotational movement of the knee for daily activities of the human being. Currently, several studies have focused on the importance of the functionality of this structure together with the anterior cruciate ligament. Advances in the knowledge of biomechanics and surgical techniques of the anterolateral ligament have contributed to the development of arthroscopy throughout the world.
Objective:
To explain the importance of anterolateral ligament repair in the event of anterior cruciate ligament rupture in the knee.
Methods:
Different bibliographical references were used, from traumatology and orthopedics journals from Colombia, Argentina, Spain and the United States, and university repositories. The search words were anterolateral ligament, anterior cruciate ligament, arthroscopy and repair.
Results:
The specific indications for anterolateral ligament repair vary according to the case and the surgeon's preferences. An accurate assessment of the injury and determination of the presence of damage to the anterior cruciate ligament is required. This is achieved through clinical examination, imaging tests, and a thorough evaluation of knee stability.
Conclusions:
Anterolateral ligament repair, in cases of anterior cruciate ligament rupture of the knee, is a procedure with promising results: it improves knee stability and the ability to return to activities; however, further research is needed to determine the long-term efficacy of this approach.
Palabras clave : anterolateral ligament; anterior cruciate ligament; arthroscopy; repair.
