ALVAREZ LOPEZ, Alejandro; VALDEBENITO ACEITON, Valentina y SOTO-CARRASCO, Sergio Ricardo. Congenital femorotibial dislocation. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2025, vol.39 Epub 15-Abr-2025. ISSN 1561-3100.
Introduction:
Congenital malformations of the lower limbs occur relatively frequently; among them is femorotibial dislocation, which may be associated with other entities.
Objective:
To update information on patients with congenital femorotibial dislocation.
Methods:
The information search was carried out over a period of 60 days (March 1 to April 30, 2023). The following words were used: knee congenital dislocation, lower limb deformities, hyperextended knee. One hundred seven articles were reviewed in PubMed, Hinari, SciELO and Medline databases, using EndNote search manager and reference manager.
Development:
The most commonly used classifications in this entity were reported, based on the clinical, imaging and functional aspects of this joint. The conservative and surgical treatment modalities, their indications and specific techniques according to the degree of severity were addressed.
Conclusions:
The classifications were based on the relationship between the femur and tibia, as well as the degrees of flexion of the joint. Conservative treatment is preferred due to its high percentage of effectiveness. The surgical modalities consist of quadriceps lengthening and femoral shortening.
Palabras clave : congenital knee dislocation; hyperextension of the knee; closed reduction; quadriceps lengthening; quadriceps plasty.
