AVILA SANTANA, Elvis Rafael; DIAZ, Ismaray de la Caridad de Ávila y ALBISU SANTANA, Eduardo. Guided hemiepiphysiodesis with eight plates in the correction of genus valgum in pediatric patients. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2025, vol.39 Epub 22-Sep-2025. ISSN 1561-3100.
Introduction:
Valgus deformities of the lower limbs in children and adolescents are a frequent reason for consultation in orthopedic practice. They are characteristics of regional evolution with growth and, therefore, they are underestimated. Surgical treatment seeks to correct the deformity.
Objective:
To determine the effectiveness of guided hemiepiphysiodesis with a figure-of-eight plate in the correction of genus valgum in pediatric patients.
Methods:
An observational, descriptive, case series type investigation was carried out in 29 patients with genus valgum (58 physis) at William Soler Ledea University Pediatric Hospital from January 2018 to March 2020. Guided hemiepiphysiodesis was applied with plate in eight.
Results:
The deformity was more frequent in females. All patients corrected the deformity, and 10.3 % of the sample presented complications.
Conclusions:
The effectiveness of the application of guided hemiepiphysiodesis with a figure-of-eight plate in the genus valgum of pediatric patients was demonstrated.
