Resumen
CIFUENTES-MARIN, Juan Bernardo y AGUILA-SOTO, Carolina Andrea. Literature review on temporomandibular joint disorders and body posture. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 2025, vol.39 Epub 22-Sep-2025. ISSN 1561-3100.
Introduction:
Temporomandibular disorders and postural disorders have become common in children and adolescents; therefore, research is increasingly focusing on this topic.
Objective:
To review the literature on the relationship between temporomandibular disorders and posture.
Methods:
In May 2023, a literature review was conducted in PubMed, ScientDirect, EBSCO, and Scopus, with a 5-year time frame. Studies conducted in humans and with open access were included; bibliographic reviews, systematic reviews, and unrelated research were excluded.
Results:
Forty-one thousand one hundred thirty-two (41,132) articles were recovered, and only 10 of them were selected. Four associated temporomandibular disorders and posture; three did not establish any relationship, and the rest were linked to weight distribution, plantar pressure, and gait, respectively.
Conclusions:
Although evidence of an association between temporomandibular disorders and body posture was found, further correlational studies are needed.
Palabras clave : temporomandibular disorders; malocclusion; posture; postural balance.
