A microbiological culture of the secretion of the lacrimal sac of 98 patients carriers of dacryocystitis that were seen at the Oculoplasty consulting room from January to December, 2000, was made. 60.2 % of the patients were between 31 and 60. 69.4 % were patients with chronic dacryocystitis. 86.7 % of the cultures were positive, 83.7 % of them were bacterial and 3.0 % were mycotic. Within the bacterial isolates, the Gram-positive accounted for 70.7 % and the Gram-negative for 16.3. Amikacine only had 25 % of resistance for positive coagulase staphylococcus, 22.2 % for the negative and 14.3 % for the pseudomona. It was observed a prevalence of ages 31-60 and the chronic dacryocystitis and the infection due to Gram-positive germs predominated. Amikacin was the most effective drug both in vivo and in vitro

Palabras clave : DACRYOCYSTITIS [therapy]; AMIKACIN [therapeutic use].
