Thyroid ophthalmology is an inflammatory disease of autoimmune ethiology that is characterized by exophthalmos and bilateral palpebral retraction. In order to show the experience of "Hermanos Ameijeiras" Hospital in the treatment of this disease, the study of 51 patients is presented. 74 % of the studied cases visited the physician before the year of the beginning of the disease. The evolution was satisfactory in 84 % of them. 62.7 % received treatment with steroids. Decompressive orbital surgery was performed in 50.9 % and that of strabismus in 14 % of the cases. The patients with less time of evolution of the disease developed an ophthalmopathy of lower severity, with a satisfactory evolution in most of the cases.
