Efectividad de la compresión del saco lagrimal vs. sondaje de la vía lagrimal en la dacriocistitis congénita Effectiveness of lacrimal sac compression vs: lacrimal duct intubation in congenital dacryocystitis . Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2004, vol.17, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3070.
Congenital dacriocystitis is the obstruction of the lacrimal drainage system, which is caused by membranes at the level of Hasner's valve. The treament of these patients varies. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the efficacy of the lacrimal sac compression and the lacrimal sac intubation in infants that were treated at the service. A descriptive retrospective study of 600 infants that were seen at the Service of Oculoplasty of "Ramón Pando Ferrer" Ophthalmological Teaching Hospital from January 2001 to March 2003. Lacrimal sac compression and lacrimal sac catheterization were performed in 2 groups of patients, respectively. Results: 61.5 % of the patients were females and 38.5 % were males. The first symptoms appeared between 3 and 6 months before visiting the physician's office in 70 % of the cases. The lacrimal sac compression was effective in 94.6 % of the most affected infants and the excretory lacrimal duct intubation had an effectivity of 92%. The patients presented a similar distribution by age and sex. There was a predominance of the absence of complications with the treatment. The lacrimal sac compression and the lacirmal sac catheterization were successful in more than 90 % of the cases. The response to the treatment and its success was evaluated in every case
