Resumen

HERRERA SOTO, Marta; AGRAMONTE CENTELLES, Ileana  y  GOMEZ CABRERA, Clara. Management of the osteotomy secondary closure in patients operated on of dacryocystorhinostomy. Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2004, vol.17, n.1. ISSN 0864-2176.

Objective: To identify the causes of the osteotomy closure and to evaluate the efficiency of the lacrimal duct intubation in its repermeabilization. Methods: Descriptive reterospective study of 21 patients that presented post-dacryocystorhinostomy osteotomy closure from January 1998 to May 2003. Age, elapsed time, general or local affections ocurred after the first operation, and the evaluation of the surgical area were considered. Results: 52.4 % of the patients were 31-60 years old. The elapsed time in which the symptoms appeared after the first operation was over a year in 57.1 %, under 6 months in 14.3 %, and 28.6 % between 6 months and a year. The acute respiratory disease was the cause of the osteotomy closure in 28.5 % of the cases. There were surgical complications in 42.9 % of the operated on, whereas in 86 % the evolution was satisfactory. Conclusions: There was a prevalence of patients aged 31-60. The time elapsed after the first operation was of more than a year in most of the patients. The most frequent cause of osteotomy closure was the acute respiratory disease. There was a considerable percentage of complication, but a high effectivity was attained with the surgical treatment. Recommendations: to perform dacriocystorhinostomy with mono- or bicanalicular intubation in every patient carrier of traumatic dacryocystitis, dacryocystitis accompanied with obstruction of the common duct, or with stenosis or canalicular obstruction

Palabras clave : Osteotomy [repermeabilization]; intubation [lacrimal duct].
