Resumen

PEREZ CANDELARIA, Eneida de la C et al. Use of the Maloney´s method in the intraocular lens calculation after the refractive corneal surgery. Rev Cubana Oftalmol [online]. 2010, vol.23, suppl.1, pp.470-479. ISSN 0864-2176.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of Maloney´s method for the calculation of the intraocular lens in patients operated from refractive corneal surgery at "Ramón Pando Ferrer" Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology in 2007. METHODS: The implanted intraocular lens was estimated through the keratometry included in Maloney´s method using the SRK/T formula. Both the keratometry and the lens power, contributed by the conventional method and Maloney´s method, were statistically compared and also the preoperative refractive data with respect to postoperative data in the cataract surgery. RESULTS: The keratometries from Maloney´s method were lower whereas the lens powers were higher than those of the conventional method. The average postoperative spherical equivalent was -0.44D. The mean spherical component after the cataract surgery was 0.50D; 43.75 % of patients were reported to be emmetropes and 37.50 % were hypermetropes. CONCLUSIONS: Maloney´s method is an effective alternative for the calculation of the intraocular lens power after the refractive corneal surgery.
