The ocular trauma, either open or closed globe, causes great anxiety to the injured, since the visual prognosis depends on an adequate medical performance at the emergency service. The performance should be specific to the case in question in order to minimize the possible complications that might occur such as cataract and glaucoma, very difficult to be managed. The case of a 43 year-old patient, who suffered an open globe vegetal trauma in area 1 in his right eye caused by one marabú thorn 3 months ago, was presented. He mentioned decreased visual acuity at one-meter distance, tears and feeling of foreign body in the eye. He went to “Ramón Pando Ferrer" Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology, with his corneal wound sutured and traumatic cataract. He underwent phacoaspiration in the crystalline, pupiloplasty, intraocular lens implantation in the posterior chamber and he was followed-up the first 24 hours and one month after surgery. The patient finally reached visual acuity with optical correction of 1,0 in Snellen´s chart one month after the surgery.
