Different items related with the formation of Hygiene and Epidemiology specialists in the health promotion subject, are presented. This is arranged by identifying the learning areas, the development of the educational process, and the acquisition of skills during the three years in which the specialization elapses. The importance of preparing this new specialist in health promotion, in order to obtain an effective performance within the community, related with the strategy of the Health National System up to the year 2000, is highlighted.
