It is considered the analysis of the health situation as one of the fundamental uses of Epidemiology. Before this asseveration there appears a question: Do our health workers know its historical development in Cuba? The present article tries to five an answer through a brief account that is part of an investigation on such analysis that concluded recently. The interview to experts -a conventional qualitative technique- was useful as a "living" source of information on this regard; where as the opinion of those professionals became a valuable element for the investigation. It is concluded that the analysis of the health situation as a "procedure" has an unquestionable historical value, and if it is accepted as a useful, tool to develop the present health strategy, it should be more and better used in services, a proposal that will be consistent with its future historical evaluation.
