The analysis of the health status is considered as one of the fundamental uses of epidemiology. Before this asseveration a question is asked: do our health workers know about its historical development in Cuba? The present paper tries to answer with a brief account that is part of an investigation on this analysis that concluded recently. The interview to experts -a qualitative convencional technique was useful as a "live" source of information on this regard, and the profesionals'opinion became a valuable element for investigation. It is concluded that the analysis of the health status as a "procedure" has an unquestionable historical value, and that if it is accepted asza utile tool to develop the present health strategy, it should be more and better used in services. Thia proposal would be consequent with its future historical evaluation
