Resumen

Reflexiones acerca del uso de los conceptos de eficiencia, eficacia y efectividad en el sector salud. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2000, vol.26, n.1, pp.50-56. ISSN 0864-3466.

This paper deals with the preoccupation existing about the way the terms efficiency, efficacy and effectiveness are used in the health sector, since it is not known if they are always referred to starting from concepts founded on unique bases, known and accepted by officials and specialists. The generally economic sense that is given to these words does not correspond to the meanings appearing in the dictionary. It is also stated that there are not universally accepted meanings for them and examples taken from two sources are included. Finally, a possible way to solve this problem is suggested that leads the author to express a wider and deeper opinion on this regard in a next paper.
