A retrospective descriptive analysis was made to set forth the classifications by tendencies and models based on the phylosophical thinking of the nurses that have preceded us and to construe some nursing models and theories and their influence over the development of care to man. It was observed that classifications by tendencies and models shoved the interest and concern for finding a proper conceptual theoretical framework for nursing as a profession, thus reducing its historical dependence on the other health sciences. Emphasis was made on the hollistic approach to man as the nursing´s object of care
