Resumen

LOURO BERNAL, Isabel. Funciones esenciales de la Salud Pública en programas de maestrías de la Escuela Nacional de Salud Pública. Año 2001. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.1, pp.46-53. ISSN 0864-3466.

The Essential Functions of Public Health (EFPH) are important dimensions comprising social practices for the comprehensive development of the population’s health. The EFPH should penetrate into the training of health human resources and lead the curricular improvement processes to attain among the graduates more adequate projections aimed at satisfying the public health demands in each society. The public health schools are in charge of the teaching-research training, scientific and technological development and technical cooperation. The training programs of these schools should meet the needs of the working world, for which the concept of competences is a way to achieve this union. The bases for the improvement of the master´s degree programs with health profile of the National School of Public Health (NSPH) are described and the correspondence between the common contents in the programs and the EFPH is analyzed through the basic competences. The criterion of the professors from the NSPH was used to make this analysis. Some areas of knowledge which are common to the programs, where 20 basic competences contributing to all the EFPH in different degrees are formed, were identified.
