This paper is aimed at identifying the needs of epidemiological information of the family physicians and nurses from "Reina" and "Marcio Manduley" Polyclinics, in the municipality of Centro Habana. To this end, a descriptive study was conducted by applying a questionnaire validated by a pilot study and by experts. The absolute and relative frequencies by topic, as well as the ways preferred to recieve information, were calculated. 98 % of the surveyed personnel expressed their information needs in the sphere of epidemiology. The main identified topics were the control of focuses of communicable diseases (70.6 %), AIDS control program (70.6 %), prevention of diseases (58.2 %) and cardiovascular diseases (49.7 %). The ways preferred for receiving information on epidemiology were the participation in short courses (79.6 %), seminars and workshops (51.7 %) and scientific meetings (46.7 %). Most of family physicians and nurses recognized the need to have updated information about some topics related to epidemiology to improve their performance as primary health care workers. Most of these workers needed information on the control of focuses of cummunicable diseases and their prevention, specially AIDS, as well as on some cardiovascular diseases, which are a health problem in these areas. The short courses were the most preferred by family physicians and nurses at the studied polyclinics
