Some facts illustrating the progress of science and culture observed in Cuba from the eighth decade of the XIX century on are mentioned. It is stressed the influence of this period of great intellectual splendor on the growing fecund production of scientific literature and, particularly, of that one devoted to medical sciences and their related disciplines. It is made a brief description of the most important formal and content aspects of the 8 titles of the medical journals that appeared between 1886 and 1890, whose circulation was an expression of this progress and an answer to the increasing needs of information of the Cuban doctors, surgeons, pharmacists, dentists and naturalists at that time. We try to make a modest contribution to the history of the Cuban medical bibliography and to make possible that the present and future generations of health specialists have referential information on this regard
