FLEITAS RUIZ, Reina. Contradicciones de la movilización de la mujer como gestora de salud sexual y reproductiva en Cuba. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2003, vol.29, n.3, pp.246-252. ISSN 0864-3466.

Contradictions of the mobilization of woman as a manager of sexual and repreoductive health in Cuba The peculiarities of the historical process of the mobilization of woman as a health manager in the struggle against the economic underdevelopment as a material condition of health development are explained. It is supported by a triangular prospect based on the use of qualitative and quantitative techniques. National statistics, as well as empiric data obtained from surveys and interviews to experts are used. An analysis from the gender perspective of the mobilization of woman as a health manager, a determinating condition of health development projects based on a social phylosophy of medicine, is made. The gender perspective that denounces the exploitation woman has been subjected to along history and stresses the importance of the cultural determinants for explaining this sytem of sexual domination, is a political and theoretical proposal that aligns to the speech trying to understand health from a social approach, as a state of complete well-being attained by the human beign and determined by several factors. A model of human development of health presuposes the overcoming of all kinds of inequities, including gender, and it is possible when the human being of any sex, race or social class is considered as object and subject of health. The effectiveness of the development model lies in knowing how to use the available resources. To potentiate woman’s abilities as a health manager, abilities that were acquired in the course of her role as a caretaker along life, is just the starting point necessary to turn woman into a protagonist of the professional development of health sciences and of the general health system. Woman is a human resource whose potentialites have been restricted to limited spaces by the patriarchal culture. In spite of this cultural reality, women have been able to establish in the process of interaction of the domestic space a series of values and knowledge that are fundamental for a model of human development of health that attempts to promote the access to health services under conditions of gender equity and to reconstruct the health system provoking ruptures with the sex division of work. In the research they appear as the most interested in health promotion and with the most positive attitude towards health
