A summary of the main antecedents of the analysis of the health situation in Cuba is presented. The aspects that characterize nowadays this process at the primary level are approached and it is reflected about its development prospects to improve the situation of health community. General guidelines are recommended to make this analysis in the communities under the leadership of family physicians and nurses and a general methodology for its successful development with the active participation of the population is provided. Finally, an original concept of this fundamental process is presented
