Health and economics constitute a binomial that is actively related. It is possible that there is no decision in the field of health care that does not have an economic implication. Interaction between economics and health may be assessed from two different perspectives. The first one is seen through the impact of the health care system as a condition of the population well-being, as a determinant of labor productivity and in the formation of human capital. The second one is seen through the qualitative and quantitative effect of the health care system on the growth of the national economics, which reinforces the importance of health care as an economic sector. The present article presents a brief review of the contents of Health Economics, its tendencies in the international arena and its characteristics in Cuban public health care
