GARCIA FARINAS, Anai et al. Cost-effectiveness of immunization against Haemophilus influenzae type B in children aged 0-4 years. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2005, vol.31, n.4, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.
The objective of the study was to economically evaluate immunization against Haemophilus influenzae type B for the control of meningitis in the 0-4 y age group from 1999 to 2002 in the City of Havana. A cost-effectiveness analysis was made from a social perspective. The variables were immunization and non-immunization. The effectiveness was measured on the basis of the number of prevented cases and deaths. The average cost of a prevented case was 112 977.8 pesos and of a prevented death was 263 614.8 pesos. The incremental cost of immunization was 108 878.1 pesos per prevented case and 254 048.8 pesos per prevented death. Cost-effectiveness ratio was sensitive to variations in the cost of immunization, of treatment and in immunization effectiveness. Vaccination is really effective in controlling meningitis but it represented a high cost for the state
