A brief biographical sketch of Dr. Heliodoro Martínez Junco (1922-2000) that covers his birth, scientific formation, professional practice, revolutionary activities, his work as one of the forgers of the Cuban revolutionary public health care, mainly during the performance of his duties as Undersecretary and Hygiene and Epidemiology Vice-minister (1960-1968) and as Ministry of Public health (1968-1972) was presented. Important references including part of this public health thinking and others that corroborate his deep and extensive scientific and humanitarian culture were quoted.
