JARDINES MENDEZ, José B. Access to information and the health equity. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2007, vol.33, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.
The relationship between access to information and health equity in the context of the present knowledge society was addressed. Taking the development of information and knowledge technologies and the postponed goal of "Health for All in the 21st century" as a basis, equity was analyzed as the most relevant moral challenge in the field of health. It was assessed that the process of knowledge management in public health essentially has to do with the empowering of persons and should take place on the basis of health determinants at the different intervention levels. Access to information was assessed as an important health equity determinant from two dimensions: source of information on equity and equity generator. It was concluded that access to reliable sources of information that are contextualized at local level and meet the needs according to levels and types of health interventions is a premise for health equity
