This paper presented an analysis of feeding as a biological process and also two fundamental aspects like its availability and accessibility both physically and economically. Data on the science of nutrition and its historical development as well as data on food energy availability in some regions of the world and in Argentina throughout the time were examined. Moreover, an analysis was made on the food markets, their presentation and consequences in urban and rural areas in addition to problems of economic accessibility to food faced by vast population segments resulting from poverty in both areas. The Argentinian response to this situation through social food programs and their lack of efficiency in fulfilling the nutritional objectives set for the vulnerable population groups were also examined
