The usefulness and the applicability of the Health Situation Analysis in medical services and its contribution to facilitate the decision-taking are unquestionable. In giving priority to the development of the Health Situation Analysis as a scientific and methodological instrument in the teaching contexts, the application represents a necessary contribution to the development of the national health care system. Nowadays, through the so-called "required transformations" of this system, there should be renewed the making of the Health Situation Analysis, which is useful for the health services in practice rather than words. This article briefly explained the development of this instrument in family medicine, commented on some results of the use of this concept in medical teaching and in services, and summarized the objectives of a proposal that gives priority to the implementation of the Health Situation Analysis in the space-populations represented by the physician´s offices and the health areas. It was concluded that, once the contribution of the Health Situation Analysis to the clarification of the health situation of the Cuban population is admitted and the deficiencies in application accepted, then the only thing that remains to be done is to start a renewal process in order to face the new challenges derived from the present situation of the national health system and to promote consistent solutions for the most prevailing health problems.
